Little Update 26/04/2011 :)

Hello, I'm Mae and I'm from the 2011 team.

Nobody has blogged on here since the team building day so I thought I would log in and just give a little update of what's occuring and just getting used to using this blog :)

On Saturday 7th May we are holding a community fair at St Andrews Church from 11am til 2pm. This is a chance for the local community to find out more about the project, what we are doing, why we're doing it etc. We are also holding some stalls and a raffle too so feel free to come along and check it out.

That is all for right now but I will be sure to make a habit of posting events on here

Team building day at Beaudesert

Seventeen of us, including leaders and students from both schools (Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay) met at Cannock Chase today to take part in some team building activities. We worked together to stack crates passing them up to the brave person who volunteered to balance on the top of the ever increasing pile.

We took part in an archery competition, some of us surprising ourselves and each other with hidden talents!

We raced pedal cars and finally worked in pairs to support each other round the low ropes course. At one stage we were blindfolded and had to trust our partner to talk us around the course and keep us safe.

A barbeque lunch was cooked for us by Mary Owen, leader of Great Wyrley Cubs and one of the Link for Life trustees. She and her team provided a well earned lunch. Thanks to Natasha and her family for teaching us songs and games we can play with the children in South Africa.
Thanks also to the Beaudesert Trust for keeping us safe and helping us to develop as a team. Now we feel a little more prepared for working together in South Africa.

Indian Buffet at The Padma Lounge

More than 50 people enjoyed a buffet of first class Indian food at The Padma Lounge (High Green Court, Cannock, WS11 1GR)  last Monday (28 March).  As well as the relaxed atmosphere & fine food, guests enjoyed songs from Holly Evans and  a charity raffle for the Link 4 Life Project.  There was also the chance to hear about the project from those who are involved -  Students from both the 2010 and the 2011 teams were present.

Our thanks to Tarak Ludhi, owner of The Padma Lounge whose chefs and staff could not have ben more helpful.  It was quite wonderful that the whole night raised more than £600 for the Link 4 Life Project and that all help towards the cost of sending 10 young people from our local schools to visit our partner chairities in South Africa this July.  Thanks also to Andy Evans for organising the whole event, and most importantly to everyone who came along and supported us so generously.

The food was excellent  and I think that many people who came to the buffet night will be coming back for more.  Padma Lounge has a website www.padmalounge.co.uk and is on Facebook (seach for "Padma Lounge Restuarant"), so why not look them up and enjoy some great food and hospitality
